The Young Scientist Innovation Fair Exhibition will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2009 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the California Center for Sustainable Energy venue, located at 8690 Balboa Ave., Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92123. All Participants are welcome and refreshments will be provided.
All projects will be displayed at the exhibition for the first hour (applicants be prepared to answer questions). During the 2nd hour, the top three entries in each grade level (nine finalists total) will be given the opportunity to explain their innovation to the judges and audience. Judges will announce the winners, and prizes will be awarded. All finalists will receive ribbons, and all applicants will receive a certificate of participation.
Preparations for Finalist
1. Top 3 finalists from each grade must present an oral presentation in front of a panel of judges. The oral presentation gives you the opportunity to further explain the details of the project that you could not draw or write down. It is a chance for the judges to get to know you and your creative idea. This oral presentation should be no longer than 5 minutes.
2. The day of the exhibition you will need to bring in a physical model of your invention. You should have had something similar made in Phase 1 of the competition but it might be wise to make a few upgrades. If you organized a specific program as a solution, then bring in a poster board through which you can creatively portray your idea.
3. All contestants need to bring a poster board to go along with their physical representation. The posters should be labeled, include diagrams from all angles of your invention, and contain any other fun facts or statistics you want to share with your audience. Be ready to explain all the parts of your idea and diagram.
